Learning to Change – Changing to Learn [VIDEO]

We all know Education needs to be changed if not dramatically, at least urgently. Technology, collaborative web and tools are providing us with an unique first time chance and new perspective to do so, but still, schools are same old systems and structures. More and more teachers, educators and  pedagogues are claiming for this innovation and change into education: making teachers become mentors and integrating new technologies in syllabus and courses, creating new spaces for students, and most of all, making learning experience a more collaborative and dynamic process, that is, turning a classroom into a community where students learn much more than history or maths, were they can relate to knowledge and experiment, where they can share and co-work. Some schools are already even using some videogames for History where students get involved into 3D adventures in Ancient Rome or Greece learning about life, society, politics, history, art, maths, etc.

But again, why is the change taking so long? What are administrations and governments waiting for? Most students feel they are being held back by our education system and usually get bore before even finishing high school. But they can really feel identify with communities, Web 2.0, communications, internet, computers, they are speaking a different language and living rich learning and sharing experiences throughout computers and mobile phones. Why are we not using them for learning yet? Our world is changing fast, our students are developing new skills we are ignoring and wasting.

Some voices argue that Social Media Culture will fade, but I truly believe this is just the first step to communities, to the power of crowd, to collective intelligence, to collaboration at all stages, and a more dynamic and collaborative education for our students, must be not the last to evolve, but the first, because only them are the future.

Please take a moment to watch this video with some great testimonies from educators, pedagogues and innovators.

Why are we not making it happen yet?
